The Art of Face Washing

IN THIS ARTICLE

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to "But More Importantly." If you're a newcomer, our platform is the place to learn about fascinating ingredient stories, cosmetic procedures, and much more. Today, we aim to debunk common misconceptions and provide you with the knowledge you need to enhance your skincare routine, starting from the basics. The topic of discussion? How to properly wash your face.

Often, people underestimate the importance of this. They hurriedly rinse their face, dab it dry, and move on to applying skincare products. Such hasty cleansing practically negates the effects of the skincare products that follow. Therefore, we're here to provide a thorough insight into the process, timing, and products you should use while washing your face.

The Morning Cleanse: A Myth Debunked

Here's a tip top skincare enthusiasts might already know: you don't need a morning cleanse. Let me clarify: you can simply rinse your face with water in the morning, no cleanser required.

Having spoken to hundreds of you, I've noticed over-exfoliation and over-stripping of the skin, often caused by excessive washing with harsh cleansers. The evening cleanse is paramount to rid your skin of the day's grime, but the morning cleanse can be reserved for water alone.

Understanding your Skin Type and Environment

If you have oily skin and find it hard to give up your morning cleanse, you can gradually reduce its frequency to twice a week and observe how your skin adjusts. However, if you live in a humid environment and have oily skin, you might need to continue with the morning cleanse. Your skin type and environment play a significant role in determining your skincare routine.

The Double Cleansing Technique: A Deep Dive

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water Makeup Remover

Speaking of cleansing techniques, let’s address double cleansing. Many people prefer using a cleansing balm like "Take the Day Off." Personally, I'm not always a huge fan of balms due to the residue some options leave behind. Instead, I usually start my double cleanse with Micellar water, with Bioderma being my preferred choice. Remember, this is not a paid endorsement; it's simply my recommendation based on personal preference. Apply to your face using a cotton pad, focusing on eye makeup, then wipe off the first layer. Ensuring all makeup is off before using a cleanser prevents you from discovering residual makeup after washing.

Product Recommendations for Effective Face Washing

    Vanicream Gentle Cleanser

My go-to product is Vanicream, an affordable, simple, gentle cleanser. As we transition into winter, I wanted something slightly creamier, so I've been experimenting with Purity by Philosophy.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Perfect Face Washing

We first warm up the cleanser between our palms before applying it gently onto a dry face. Make sure to massage it in thoroughly, ensuring it doesn't irritate your eyes. Pay attention to all areas, including your eyebrows and the corners of your nose. Once you've deeply cleansed your face, grab a towel. I personally have a different towel for each day of the week- it keeps things simple.

Next, dampen the towel with lukewarm water and slowly wipe off the cleanser. This method allows you to efficiently remove all the dirt without getting your sleeves wet. Everything comes off in a clean and controlled manner. Then, we head back to the sink, where I usually splash water on my face, and finally, we pat our face dry with a pristine white towel.

However, if you're using an active cleanser, the process changes slightly. Apply the cleanser directly to your face without warming it first, add a little water, then after a minute or so, warm it up on your face. Just like before, wipe it off with a damp towel. This leaves your face looking clear and fresh, and your skin will definitely appreciate it.

I hope this simple but vital article was helpful to lots of you. It's surprising how many people are unsure of the proper way to wash their face. Plus, this method is good for the environment, minimizing water waste while still ensuring a thorough cleanse. If you want that extra splash of water for the full face-washing experience, feel free to do so. Enjoy, and your skin will thank you in the long run.
