The Importance of Balance: Debunking the Morning Cleansing Myth

Many individuals may think a facial cleanser is necessary in the morning, particularly if they have oily skin. However, this approach may be counterproductive. Over-cleansing can strip your skin of the natural oils it needs for balance. The absence of these oils might trigger your skin to produce more, paradoxically making it oilier.

Perfecting Your Brows Before Skincare: A Personal Tip

Before I start my skincare routine, I like to do my eyebrows first. I don't naturally have great brows, so I augment them. After lightly coloring them in, I brush them repeatedly for a more natural look. I prefer to do this prior to applying skincare products or makeup. In this way, my brows can better grip the products and blend more naturally with my skin. I don't consider myself a makeup artist, so this advice is based on my own experience.

I recently purchased an E.L.F. brow gel, which is actually a clear mascara that I use for my brows. The double-sided brushes are a bonus as I can switch to the other side when one starts to look worn.

After this brow routine, I move into my skincare regimen. My morning routine is quite simple, and tailored to my personal skin issues. Generally, it includes an antioxidant, potentially a light moisturizer depending on the humidity or dryness of the weather, and obviously, sunscreen.

The Foundation of My Routine: The Major Fade Hyper Serum

I consistently work on evening out my skin tone. To those looking at me, my skin may seem quite even. This is because I put in the effort daily, using the Major Fade Hyper Serum from the Major Fade Trio system. I do experiment with other brands as well because I am continuously trying out new products. The Hyper Serum is the foundation of my routine. I usually use four pumps for my face, occasionally remembering to also apply it to my neck and chest, which should not be forgotten as they are part of the same cosmetic unit. If the weather is dry, I'll dab a bit extra under my eyes. The serum contains Kojic acid, Arbutin, licorice root, and a low percentage of niacinamide. Diglucosylgallic acid, an ingredient known to mitigate redness, pairs well with a de-puffing agent.

Tackling Redness with the Active Seal Moisturizer

Despite my attempts at using lasers, I still experience redness, particularly as the seasons change. I find the Active Seal Moisturizer very beneficial because it contains Vitamin C. Interestingly, I might skip the serum on humid days and use only the moisturizer under my sunscreen to avail the protective effect of Vitamin C. This is because over-hydration of the skin can be counterproductive. Remember, with this product, a little goes a long way.

Also, it's vital to understand that this isn't a basic moisturizer. It's packed with active ingredients, which can cause pilling due to their powder-like nature, which is emulsified in their base. Therefore, I try to apply my products in a certain order, allowing each to settle before applying the next one. For example, I usually put on sunscreen after I dry my hair, which I do after completing my skincare routine.

Introducing: The Isntree Purple Protector Sunscreen

Now, let's talk about a new sunscreen I'm trying, the Isntree Purple Protector. It's a unique SPF 40 sunscreen, a blend of mineral and chemical sunscreens. Its key ingredient is onion bulb extract, known for its antibacterial, antifungal properties and its effectiveness on surgical scars. The sunscreen, with its purple tint, also helps neutralize discoloration and hyperpigmentation. I always apply a generous amount, enough to cover two fingers, and it blends in seamlessly.

A useful tip I've picked up is to gently tap sunscreen over active products to prevent pilling. I've found this particularly helpful when using Laura Mercier's Tinted SPF.

My Morning Makeup Routine: Simple and Effective

After the sunscreen, I proceed with my makeup. I apply light coverage of the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, just enough to even out the tone. I also go over my eyebrows to make them blend better with the rest of my face. And of course, mascara always gives that finishing touch.

That's my morning routine—skincare and makeup included. The key take-away is that your morning skincare regimen should be simple and targeted. As for makeup, well, you can have fun with that!
