Review: Avène TriXéra Nutrition Nutri-Fluid Balm

Two bottles of Avène TriXéra Nutrition Nutri-Fluid Balm

It’s winter — it’s cold outside, it’s hot inside, then it’s hot outside (15 degrees celsius in Berlin!), then it’s cold inside when your heating stops working. The result? Angry, upset, and crackly skin. Enter Avène. I came across Avène TriXéra Nutrition Nutri-Fluid Balm through some YouTube recommendations last year and was interested. I’ve found the brand a bit middle of the road before. Not terrible, but not spectacular either. One thing that piqued my interest about the product was that it was for both the face and body… and let’s just say I wasn’t convinced. Anyhow, I put it to the test to give you my honest opinion, based on the ingredient makeup of the product, its use on a daily basis, and the elegance of the formulation.

What is Avène TriXéra Nutrition?

Avène TriXéra Nutrition Nutri-Fluid Balm is a product by Avène, a brand steeped in the rich history of the Avène Thermal Springs in France. Known for their therapeutic properties, the Thermal Springs are the inspiration and active ingredient in many of Avène's products. The Nutri-Fluid Balm claims to provide intense nutrition and 48-hour hydration for dry to very dry sensitive skin, making it an ally during harsh winter months.

Avène TriXéra Nutrition Nutri-Fluid Balm is meant to meet the needs of those with dry or irritated skin.

In recent years, the beauty and skincare industry has seen a rise in popularity for natural and organic products that don’t contain any harsh chemicals or irritants. Consumers are becoming increasingly conscious of the ingredients they put on their skin and this product is a response to that.

What is the problem it is trying to solve?

The big problem Avène TriXéra Nutrition Nutri-Fluid Balm helps to solve is dry, irritated skin. This product offers deep, long-lasting hydration that helps to soothe and protect the skin from the effects of environmental stressors. It also helps to replenish the skin's natural oils, restoring its suppleness and elasticity.

Who is the product aimed at?

The brand is trying to reach out to people with dry or sensitive skin who are looking for a product that offers deep hydration and nourishment without causing further irritation.

The target consumer is looking for a product that:

What’s the result?

Avène TriXéra Nutrition Nutri-Fluid Balm will provide long lasting hydration that helps to soothe and protect the skin from environmental stressors. It will also replenish the skin's natural oils, helping to restore its suppleness and elasticity. The combination of Avène’s signature Thermal Spring Water, Shea Butter and Glycerin helps to form a protective barrier on the skin that locks in moisture. I will say, my skin is really not normally super oily, but this was way too much for my face, even in winter. Great for the body, but I would use extremely sparingly or only in emergencies on the face.

Formulation and Ingredients

The formulation of Avène TriXéra Nutrition Nutri-Fluid Balm is a unique combination of Shea Butter, Glycerin, and Avène’s signature Thermal Spring Water. Each of these ingredients plays a crucial role in the efficacy of the product. Shea Butter, known for its rich, creamy texture, provides intense moisturization. Glycerin, a popular humectant, adds to the hydration by drawing moisture from the air into the skin. Lastly, the Thermal Spring Water, unique to Avène, is known for its soothing and anti-irritating properties.

What are the ingredients that help the product achieve the result?

The formula combines Avène’s signature Thermal Spring Water, Shea Butter and Glycerin. The combination of these ingredients helps to form a protective barrier on the skin that locks in moisture. This barrier helps to keep the skin hydrated for longer periods of time, while also helping to soothe any dry or irritated areas.

What does it feel like to apply?

Avène has created a luxurious texture that is both lightweight and non-greasy (although the occlusive property does mean your own natural oils build up quickly after use). The texture is designed to help the product absorb quickly into the skin, leaving it feeling refreshed and nourished without any greasy residue. This is great for when you want to apply clothes quickly, or get out the door and go but, like I say, you’ll end up feeling the residue a little later on. They have also added a light, pleasant scent that helps to further enhance the application experience.

Value and Cost

At a price point of $42, Avène TriXéra Nutrition Nutri-Fluid Balm may seem like an investment. However, considering the amount of product you receive (200ml), it provides good value for money. The product is housed in a sleek, user-friendly bottle with a pump dispenser, ensuring a controlled, hygienic application. Also, given that a small amount goes a long way, one bottle should last a considerable length of time, even with daily use. This makes the balm a cost-effective choice for those seeking long-term hydration and relief for their skin.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Avène TriXéra Nutrition Nutri-Fluid Balm is a good solution for those with dry or sensitive skin who are looking for a product that offers deep hydration and nourishment without causing further irritation. Its formula helps to form a protective barrier on the skin that locks in moisture, while its pleasant texture and scent provide a luxurious experience. It is an adequate solution for those looking to achieve healthier, hydrated skin.

BUT we really have to break this down into FACE and BODY benefits.

For the body:

You’ll barely notice this lotion is there, which is great. It lasts a long time and there is no sticky or tacky after effect, which I really liked. You barely smell the scent but it helps it feel light and fresh when going on.

For the Face:

This is unlikely to be your favorite moisturizer, even in the depths of winter. It actually applies pretty OK to the face and neck but the shea butter in the formulation means that about three hours later you look as if you have been basted like a turkey. The best face use case scenario, I believe, is for times when you either 1. can’t take multiple products with you on a trip or 2. run out of/forget your regular facial moisturizer. It is not awful but it is not great either. Use it on your face only to tide you over in times of need.
